A few years back our family took our first trip to Disney. Everything about the trip was magical. Arriving just before Easter, the lobby of our hotel was decorated with beautiful Easter eggs. To my surprise these eggs were made completely of chocolate! Each egg was intricately decorated and I stared in awe of the beauty. I couldn’t help but wonder do they taste as good as they look? I was in luck because you could purchase smaller simpler versions of those chocolate eggs right in the lobby!
This year in addition to the usual egg coloring, I sweetened the pot. Chocolate Easter eggs filled with jelly beans! I enlisted my daughters to help, and with all the open bags of candy on the counter, how could they resist? The girls and I created our designs using melting chocolate just like the ones we saw in Disney. Well maybe not just like, but we were very impressed with ourselves. We experimented with many different fillings for our Easter eggs, including jelly beans and M&M’s.
The possibilities for fillings are endless but that is only half the fun. Take a look at the fun we had creating our different designs. Ingredients
- Melting chocolates
- Large Egg Mold
- Jelly Beans, M&M’s, or candy of your choice
- Latex gloves
Directions
- In a glass bowl place the color of melting chocolate you desire to create your egg.
- 1 cup of melting chocolates takes 1 minute on high in the microwave, when you remove the bowl stir immediately to ensure all chocolate is melted completely.
- Using a large spoon place warm melting chocolate in your egg mold ensuring that the entire mold is covered.
- Allow the chocolate to harden (If you are impatient like me place your egg mold in the freezer for quicker hardening).
- Once the chocolate is hardened, put on the latex gloves. Gently push on one side of the egg and the hardened chocolate egg will slide right out! Repeat this step for the other mold.
- Place a cookie sheet place on the burners of the stove and turn it on for just a minute to get it warm.
- Take one half of the egg and hold it down on the warm cookie sheet to melt slightly.
- Place jelly beans, M&M’s or any other candy you may want into this portion of the egg.
- Working quickly warm the other half of the egg on the cookie sheet and join the two halves together. If there is excess melted chocolate where the seem meets, just run your gloved finger over this and it will quickly disappear.
- And just like that you have your very own candy filled Easter Egg!
